Woolworths - Country Road, V&A Waterfront

1. The Project Brief
When Woolworths acquired the iconic Australian lifestyle and apparel brand Country Road, Andrew Gill was selected to direct the turnkey installation of the brand’s inaugural flagship store in the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town. The brief demanded execution to exacting Australian architectural standards, incorporating imported solid hardwoods, custom brass detailing, architectural track illumination, and bespoke millwork.
2. Site Constraints & Regulatory Mandates
The V&A Waterfront is South Africa’s premier retail destination, enforcing the strictest tenant fit-out criteria on the continent. All noisy works, structural deliveries, and debris clearing were confined to strict midnight hours. The installation demanded millimeter-perfect tolerances across exotic hardwood grain alignments, shadow-line reveals, and custom stone counter junctions.
3. Specialized Trades & Engineering Deployed
4. Programme Duration & Shift Execution
Managed under an accelerated 3-week delivery programme with 24-hour shift handovers. Joinery was pre-assembled and test-fitted off-site before immediate night delivery to the Waterfront concourse.
5. Verified Outcome & Handover Quality
Delivered ahead of schedule, setting a record turnaround time for a Waterfront high-end brand store. Woolworths Head of Project Management confirmed that Andrew Gill’s company "raised the benchmark in some trades," establishing the blueprint for subsequent national Country Road store rollouts.
